A Pair of Chinese Gilt Wood Temple Plaques
19th century or earlier. The gilded teak plaques carved in high relief to both sides, the first with a scholar on horseback traveling beneath a rocky outcropping, his attendant, gesturing towards a pavilion overhead; the second with a scholar beneath a weathered tree, his attendant carrying a prunus blossom while two cranes descend from above. Each approx. 20 by 50 in, 50.8 by 127 cm.
