Attributed to Honda Yosaburo, Cloisonne Koro
c. 1890, Meiji period. The cloisonne vases of squat ovoid form set on four gilt feet, worked in silver wire and polychrome and goldstone enamels to depict dragons and phoenixes in lappets around the body with black goldstone and goldstone grounds, with a band of floral meander and geometric panels around the shoulder against a speckled tan ground, the tan base filled with floral meander, the lid decorated with butterflies and floral roundels against a black ground filled with floral meander, topped with a finely cast, blooming, ovoid-shaped gilt chrysanthemum finial. Approx. 7 3/4 by 9 by 7 in., 19.5 by 23 by 18 cm.
