A Large Japanese Seto Sometsuke Ginger Jar
Meiji period (1868-1913). The large porcelain ovoid vase on a tall flaring foot ring, painted in underglaze blue to depict various birds including thirteen swallows, hawk, owls and two peacocks among pine trees between bands of cranes flying through clouds, with two lids; the outer lid surmounted by rabbit finial, the inner lid topped with a pinecone finial, with underglaze blue mark arranged in two lines to the base. Approx. 22 1/2 by 10 in., 57.1 by 25.5 cm.
