A Chinese Jade Carving of a Crane and a Vase
The carving shows a crane, possibly the red-crowned crane, unofficial national bird of China, carved in openwork with mouth slightly open, breast and wings carved in low relief with geometric designs, tail curling under the body with flame-like feathers, with a gu vase resting on the bird's back, with a loose ring to the vase handle and another loose ring hanging beneath the bird's body, on a custom wood base. The jade approx. 6 7/8 by 3 3/4 in., 17.5 by 9.6 cm.
