Historical Letter about New York, dated 1777
Historical Letter, dated May 19, 1777, the letter written by John McKesson, the Secretary of the Committee of Safety for New York, regarding the establishment of the government of New York. In the letter, McKesson addresses the sheriffs of the counties of New York, stating that they are qualified to execute their offices and asking that they give pubic notice for the Elections of Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Members of Assembly and election of Senators in order to organize and establish the New York State Government. McKesson notably endorsed the first New York copies of the Declaration of Independence; the letter with tears, folds, discoloration and wear, appx. 15 1/8 in. H, 9 7/8 in W.
