A Transitional 'Hatcher Cargo' Kraak Bowl
c. 1640, late Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Small blue and white porcelain eight-sided bowl on a tall foot ring, decorated with the flowers of the four seasons: prunus (winter), orchid (spring), lotus (summer), and chrysanthemum (fall). Recovered from the Hatcher Shipwreck of 1640. Provenance: Christie's Amsterdam, 12-13 June 1984, "The Hatcher Collection." Approx. 2 1/4 by 4 1/2 in., 5.8 by 11.5 cm.
