A Clair-de-lune Porcelain "Apple Jar" or Pinguo Zun
18th century, Kangxi period, Qing dynasty. One of the highly regarded Ba Da Ma, or "Eight Great Numbers" porcelains produced during the Kangxi reign for the scholar's desk, the water coupe of compressed globular form, the tapering sides supported on a concave base, rising to a narrow waisted neck recessed into the shoulder and forming a deep channel around the rim, evenly applied very pale blue color to the exterior with the rim and base left white, the base with underglaze blue six-character Kangxi reign mark arranged in three lines. Approx. 3 by 3 3/4 in., 7.5 by 9.5 cm.
