A Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose Squared Vase
19th/20th century, late Qing dynasty. Square-sided baluster vase decorated in famille rose and gold overglaze enamels. The body covered in a very finely painted rose colored lotus floral meander, with brown borders of lappets around the neck, ruyi heads around the rim, and key fret, meander, and lappets around the foot. On two opposing sides of the body are poems from the Eight Famous scenes of Yanjing (Beijing), written by Emperor Qianlong. One poem is about the sunset of Jintai, the other is about trees near the west wall of the Forbidden City. The other two sides are framed courtyard scenes with figures, one depicting the Emperor with attendants. Six character iron red zhuanshu script Qianlong mark to base. Approx. 19 1/4 by 8 in., 49 by 20.4 cm.
