A Fine and Very Rare Enameled Porcelain "Leshantang" Box
18th century, Qianlong period, Qing dynasty. The box and cover well moulded and enameled in the form of a stack of books with red brocade covers and gilt flowering lotus tendrils, and joined by mock ivory clasps, the shorter ends simulating the pages of books, the cover with legend inscribed "Leshan tang" or "Hall of Pleasure from Goodness," the base and interior enameled turquoise, with wood stand. A similar box and cover sold by Christie's, Hong Kong, Lot 1235, Sale 2309. Approx. 3 by 5 3/8 by 3 1/4 in., 8 by 13.8 by 8.8 cm.
