A Chinese Cizhou Persimmon Glazed Covered Jar
Song dynasty (960-1279). The jar of bulbous form rising from a tall foot and slightly tapering to a short neck flanked by two sets of small "C" handles, topped with a slightly domed lid with a short knob, covered in a rich brown glaze with a metallic tinge, ending in a line above the foot revealing the buff clay body beneath it. Provenance: From the Estate of Patrick H. Booth, Jr. Approx. 8 3/8 by 7 1/2 in., 22.3 by 19 cm.
