Li Xiongcai (1910-2001), Calligraphy of a Poem
Mid- to late 20th century. Ink on paper, un-mounted. Li Xiongcai, was one of the most influential artists of the Lingnan School of painting. Widely exhibited including a show at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, and he has created many monumental ink landscapes for public spaces and government buildings in China including Chairman Mao Zedong?s Memorial Hall. He has also taught at several art universities within China. This large calligraphic poem describes an autumn scene beside the river. According to the inscriptions on the left, it was created at Fudan University in Shanghai as a gift to Mr. Su Qianying (1910-1996). Below the inscription is the painter's seal. Approx. 55 1/2 by 72 in., 141 by 183 cm.
