Chen Chi (1912-2005), Tree
1968. Ink on paper, framed. A native of Jiangsu province, Chen Chi relocated to the United States in 1947, and lived and worked in New York. He is widely exhibited across the United States and is the first living Chinese to be honored with a one-man retrospective in Versailles, France. In 1999, a museum dedicated to his work, the Chen Chi Art Museum, opened in Shanghai. This painting is of the mid-section of a tree in winter, showing a plethora of bare branches, using a dry brush. Artist?s signature and date inscribed to right, with seal. Approx. 13 � by 19 � in., 35 by 50.2 cm.
