A Large Han Dynasty Astronomical Bronze Mirror

Western Han Dynasty (206 BC- 9 AD). The circular astronomical mirror of silvered bronze, set to the center within a sunken octofoil is a central pierced knob encircled by a raised quatrefoil with alternating archaic characters within a hatched border, outside the hatched border eight archaic characters in the octofoil points, the outer field cast with concentric bands and eight circles within hatched borders below the plain rim. Provenance: From the collection of a prominent American military official stationed in Singapore in the mid-20th century.
