A Chinese Songhua Ink Stone
20th century. The rectangular green and gold striped stone with a smoothly polished central ink grinding surface on one side showing the layers of stone and one eye beside a carved phoenix among clouds, the reverse with a large three character inscription, "Song Le Zhai" or happy pine school, and another six character inscription "Qianlong renxu shangyu," made during the seventh year of the Qianlong administration. Approx. 5 5/8 by 9 in., 14 .3 by 23 cm.
