A Carved Horn Snuff Bottle and Lacquer Box

19th century, Qing dynasty. The snuff bottle carved in high relief on both sides with a phoenix standing on a turtle's back amidst incised waves, with horn stopper. The bottle fitted in a black and cinnabar lacquer box with the gilt image of two oxen in a landscape above shaped sides with cinnabar lacquer carved basket weave panels between gilt lotus flowers, with four character gilt xingshu Kangxi mark to the interior. Provenance: Property of an English Estate. Snuff bottle approx. 3 3/8 by 2 1/2 in., 8.2 by 6.5 cm. The box approx. 3 by 5 1/2 by 5 1/2 in. 7.6 by 14 by 14 cm.
