A Chinese Bronze Bodhisattva Guanyin, Ming Dynasty
(1368-1644). The gilt bronze bodhisattva of mercy, Guanyin, seated with legs crossed in padmasana, one hand raised in abhaya mudra, the other lowered to hold a bowl, the rounded face with downcast eyes, the hair swept back in a topknot behind an elaborate seven-leaf crown, with short sashes tied behind the ears, wearing an elaborate robe and several jeweled chains, on a raised lotus-petal base. Approx. 11 7/8 by 6 in., 30 by 15.3 cm.
