A Chinese Famille Juane Biscuit Ginger Jar

19th century, Qing dynasty. The ovoid body on a foot ring with a dome lid, decorated in the Kangxi style with famille jaune overglaze enamels to depict a phoenix amidst flowering hydrangea, peonies, magnolias, and chrysanthemums around the body, with a diaper border framing the four scholarly objects around the neck; more flowers and butterflies on the lid. Unmarked base. Approx. 10 � by 6 � in., 26 by 16 cm.
