Lin Jun (1892-1972), Calligraphic Fan Leaf
Winter of 1906. Ink on paper, fan leaf, mounted on silk. Lin Jun from Fujian was a famous book collector. The first half of this calligraphic work contains a quote by Song dynasty scholar and official Lou Yue (1137?1213), and is from the preface of chapter 78 of the "Gong Kui Ji,", in the "Si Ku Quan Shu," a collection of four books compiled by imperial order during the Qing dynasty which philosophizes the morality of the military. The other half discusses the calligraphic brush, and is a quote from a poem by Wang Shizhen (1526-1590), a well-known Ming dynasty literati. Approx.19 1/2 by 9 in., 49.5 by 23 in.
