Early 1820?s, Edo period. Ink and color on paper, oban woodblock print, framed. From the series ?Ukiyo-e Sugata Yoshiwara Taizen,? or the ?Appearances of the Floating World, Yoshiwara Encyclopedia.? Here a mid-ranking courtesan is tending to a lantern while gripping tissues between her teeth, her loosely tied kosode open to bare her ankles, before she tends to a client behind the screen. Inset image to top left depicting a Yoshiwara street scene, with series title, print title, artist?s signature and censor?s seals to left. Great colors and details. Approx. 14 1/2 by 9 5/8 in., 36.9 by 24.5 cm.
