A Transitional 'Hatcher Cargo' Kraak Bowl, Ming

c. 1640. The small blue and white porcelain eight-sided bowl on a tall foot ring, decorated with the flowers of the four seasons-- prunus (winter), orchid (spring), lotus (summer) and chrysanthemum (fall)-- recovered from the Hatcher Shipwreck of 1640. Provenance: Christie's Amsterdam, 12-13 June 1984, "The Hatcher Collection." Approx. 2 1/4 by 4 1/2 in., 5.8 by 11.5 cm.
