Pair of Yaozhou Celadon Hehe Er Xian Bowls
Song dynasty (960-1279). The pair of small drinking bowls of conical form with out-turned rims, supported on a low unglazed foot ring. The interiors each impressed with two children, the heavenly harmonious twins, Hehe Er Xian, among floral meander. The bowls covered in a semi-translucent olive-green celadon glaze that pools in the recesses, with a semi-gloss finish with visible bubble matrix. Provenance: Ex-collection of Robert H. Ellsworth, previously sold at Skinner's Sale 2528B on December 3, 2010, lot #1115. Approx. 2 by 5 in. diam., 5 by 12.7 cm. diam.
