A Pair of Famille Verte Baluster Vases
20th century. The baluster vases covered in a cream glaze with brown crackle, decorated in famille verte overglaze enamels to depict pairs of mandarin ducks swimming among lotus flowers. Mandarin ducks live in pairs and mate for live and are thus symbolic of a happy marriage, by swimming among lotus flowers it is a wish that the couple will be blessed with many sons. Lappet borders around the foot and shoulder with additional lotus flowers on the necks. Unmarked bases. Approx. 9 3/4 by 3 3/4 in., 24.8 by 9.5 cm.
