Lai Shaoqi (1915-2000), Landscape Painting
1985. Ink and color on paper, un-mounted hanging scroll. Lai Shaoqi was a 20th century artist who was a painter, calligrapher and woodcarver; he is also the founder of the New Huangshan School of paintings. This painting is a colorful and lively depiction of mountains, waterfalls, and a pavilion. According to the inscriptions to the top left, it was painted as a gift to Yang Zhi in autumn of 1985. With three seals of the artist. Approx. 17 1/4 by 37 1/2 in., 44 by 95.3 cm.
