Liu Wenxi (b. 1933), Brother and Sister

Painted March, 2007 in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. Ink and color on paper, mounted as a hanging scroll. The painting depicts a young girl wearing a white floral shirt with matching cloth hat and black pants, holding a basket of berries, one hand raised as if tasting one. Next to her, her younger brother stands shirtless with his back to the viewer, wearing light blue pants held up by a shoulder strap. He too holds a basket of berries. Artist's dated inscription and seal to lower left, additional seal to upper right. Liu Wenxi is the leader of a school specializing on painting farmers and the history of northern Shaanxi. The painting approx. 52 by 26 in., 132 by 66 cm.
