c. 1900, late Qing dynasty. Of imperial stature these two blue cloisonne fu dogs stand on wooden bases in mirrored poses with their flame-like tails raised and heads turned with open mouths. Snail-shell curled manes, tails, and flanks, their bodies adorned with yellow taotie masks on their chests and foreheads surrounded by archaistic scrolls and stylized animals in red, blue, green, and white. Both wear red saddles covered in lotus flower meander above a blanket depicting cranes standing and flying above crashing waves. With wooden bases approx. 62 by 52 in., 158 by 132 cm.
