A Squared "Eight Trigrams" Bronze Mirror, Tang Dyansty

Tang Dynasty (618-907). The silvered bronze mirror of square form with canted corners, the main field cast with a circular border of leafy tendrils around the bagua or eight trigrams and eight bosses encircling the central pierced knob. Provenance: From the collection of a prominent American military official stationed in Singapore in the mid-20th century. Literature: At Home Singapore Style: distinctive interiors & decorating sources, American Women's Association of Singapore, 1994. Exhibited: College of William & Mary, Exhibition of Chinese Bronze Art held by the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Department, 2000. Approx. 5 1/4 by 5 � in., 13.2 by 13.2 cm.
