A Chinese Dated Bronze Mirror, Song Dynasty

1097, Song Dynasty (960-1279). The silvered circular mirror cast with a central pierced knob, with four characters giving the sexangenary cyclic date, ?jiyou nian zhi? which correlates to late September/early October of 1097. Provenance: From the collection of a prominent American military official stationed in Singapore in the mid-20th century. Exhibited: College of William & Mary, Exhibition of Chinese Bronze Art held by the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Department, 2000. Approx. 4 in. diam., 10.3 cm. diam.
