A Chinese Bronze 'TLV' Mirror, Han Dynasty
Han Dynasty (206 BC -220 AD). The blackened bronze circular mirror cast with the pierced central knob within a square border, the outer field with ?TLV? pattern, eight bosses, and various celestial animals including the turtle intertwined with a snake, a dragon, a tiger, and a phoenix all arranged with in a narrow band of hatched lines, the wide raised rim with dogtooth band and a band of clouds. Provenance: From the collection of a prominent American military official stationed in Singapore in the mid-20th century. Exhibited: College of William & Mary, Exhibition of Chinese Bronze Art held by the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Department, 2000. Approx. 4 3/8 in., 9.5 cm.
