A Small Gilt Bronze "Galloping Beasts" Mirror, Tang Dynasty

Tang Dynasty (618-907). The gilt bronze mirror of circular form cast in high relief with a pierced central knob encircled by four galloping beasts, the outer field a border of foliate vines. Provenance: From the collection of a prominent American military official stationed in Singapore in the mid-20th century. Literature: At Home Singapore Style: distinctive interiors & decorating sources, American Women's Association of Singapore, 1994. Exhibited: College of William & Mary, Exhibition of Chinese Bronze Art held by the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Department, 2000. Approx. 3 1/4 in. diam., 8.3 cm. diam.
