Li Kuchan (1899-1983), Hawk

1979. Ink and color on paper, hanging scroll, un-mounted. Li Kuchan was a specialist in bird and flower paintings, student of Qi Baishi, and taught at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. This painting depicts a hawk in profile, an image typically associated with heroes, in light and dark ink. Inscription states the painting was owned by Liping, artist?s signature and seal to the left. Approx. 13 1/2 by 25 in., 34.5 by 63.5 cm.
